Short answer: book in early fall, even though your lights won't go up until November. Here's the logic, month by month, from the installer's side of the calendar.
Why booking and installing are different dates
Professional installers work through a queue. Every install gets a scheduled date, and dates are claimed in the order bookings arrive. Booking in September doesn't mean your lights shine in September — it means that when the calendar reaches November, you chose your date instead of taking what was left.
The season, month by month
August–September: the planning window. Design consultations are unhurried, every install date is still open, and custom designs have full lead time. Commercial properties and HOAs especially should book now — larger displays need the most planning.
October: the smart-money window. Most organized homeowners book now. Prime pre-Thanksgiving install dates are still available but going, and there's ample time for design decisions.
Early November: the rush begins. Installs are running daily; the dates before Thanksgiving fill first. Booking now usually still works, with fewer choices about timing.
Late November–December: the scramble. Remaining dates are what they are. Good installers finish their queue rather than cutting corners to squeeze everyone in — which means late callers sometimes hear an honest "we can't fit you properly this year."
Southwest Florida bonus: our weather makes November installs pleasant and reliable — no snow delays, no frozen gutters. The constraint here is purely calendar space, not climate.
When the lights actually go up (and come down)
Most homeowners choose lights-on in early-to-mid November so the display is glowing before Thanksgiving guests arrive — earlier installs also mean the display is tested and settled well before the peak weeks. Commercial displays typically go live earlier still, capturing the full shopping season. Take-down runs through the weeks after New Year's, scheduled with you; with storage service, the whole system disappears into labeled bins until next fall.
What to have ready when you book
- A daytime photo of your home's front — enough for a designer to start
- A sense of style: elegant warm white, classic color, or "show me options"
- Your ideal lights-on date, and any events driving it
- For HOAs and businesses: any community guidelines that apply
